NanoKnife

The NanoKnife System from AngioDynamics reimagines localized therapy through its unique mechanism of action, improving precision1, expanding versatility2, and increasing preservation2,3 - giving the physician the control to tailor treatments with confidence4,5. NanoKnife harnesses the power of Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) to effectively destroy targeted cells without the use of thermal energy6 as it delivers high-voltage pulses to create permanent nanopores within the cell membrane. This stimulus induces an apoptotic-like cellular death in the targeted tissue, resulting in a complete ablation7. The NanoKnife System is indicated for the ablation of prostate tissue in patients with intermediate risk prostate cancer.

Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a technique using a non-thermal energy to create permanent nanopores in the cell membrane to distrupt cellular homeoostasis. The disruption of cellular homeostasis initiates an apoptic-like effect, which elads to permanent cell death. After delivering a sufficient number of high voltage pulses, the cells wihin the electrical field will be irreveribly damaged. Only targeted tissue is destroyed, critical strucures are spared. IRE ablation zones are not deformed or decreased by proximaty to blood vessels (no heat sink effect).
